Co-founded in 1981 by Larry Korff, and originally called JM Security Systems, the company was Philadelphia’s first security provider to offer security solutions to homeowners who were building new homes. During the next few years, Larry recognized that both custom and production builders did not have an organized approach to offer security and other technology solutions to their homebuyers during the selection process, yet it was profoundly evident that people building their dream homes wanted new technologies

By 1983,  Larry shifted his focus to servicing the needs of builders and clients simultaneously. Realizing JM could design, install and service security solutions in a consistent and systematic approach became very appealing to builders who wanted to offer advantages over their competitors. JM’s offer included a consultative meeting with every new homebuyer. Clients could get exactly the systems they wanted. Builders could please their clients and maintain control of the building process. Simply put, JM offered both builders and new homebuyers a better experience and better results.

By 1985,  JM’s reputation expanded in a positive way and numerous builders engaged their solutions and services. JM provided a more comprehensive offering, and focused on making every builder and client interaction better by being the single point of contact for both security and structured wiring solutions.

By 1989,  Larry had concluded that offering more technological solutions was the way to go. In addition to their core business of security solutions, JM started to offer intercoms, audio systems, home theater systems and early stage home automation solutions. JM also received requests for commercial solutions, and therefore expanded offerings of access control systems, video surveillance systems, security and fire systems.

In 1997,  JM moved to a larger facility in King of Prussia, Pa. and opened a design center to demonstrate the many technologies they could offer.

In 2016,   Larry’s son Sam had joined the family business, and Sam shifted JM’s focus to the emerging trends and needs of smart homes and buildings. Realizing that the market was segmented, Sam was confident JM could provide enhanced value through pre-engineered solutions concentrating on automation technologies, along with proactive support, and “Solutions-As-A-Service”. This has marked a huge turning point for the company to become the dominant “Smart” company serving homeowners, builders, developers and building owners in the Greater Philadelphia market.
